Big Orange!

Saturday night we took a drive with our favorite people, The Alexanders!

We decided to drive the wealthy neighborhoods and look at Christmas lights.

The separation of the wealthy and middle-class and poor is very evident in America.  This is something I didn't see so much when I was in Germany.  The wealthy people in America live in giant houses usually behind locked gates.  I'm not sure what they do for a living.  Doctors and lawyers, I assume.  But the houses are grand and there are lots of them.  If you can follow this link, this will show you an example of some of the homes for sale in Little Rock in the "wealthy neighborhoods" right now.  Anyhow, these people hire professional decorators to decorate their houses for Christmas so it's nice to look in these places.

After we stalked the rich people, we went to the Promenade to watch the Christmas Tree display.  If you saw my post a few days ago, you know what it's like!

Next we walked across the Promenade and went to Big Orange.  Despite common stereotypes, many Americans don't eat traditional "American" food.  Generally if you can afford better food, you eat better food.  It's not too often that I have a burger and fries.  In fact, tonight was the second time since Jule has been here that she's had a burger.

There are exceptions to the rule, though.  Occasionally a restaurant will open up that puts a good spin on the traditional American fare.  Big Orange is one of those.  It's a fairly new restaurant in Little Rock and features burgers (either beef, turkey or veggie) and odd twists.  Jule had a Classic burger with American Cheese, Butter Leaf Lettuce, Dill Pickle, Red Onion, and Mayo.  Dylan had a "Farmer Burger" with Havarti Cheese, Fried Egg, Petit Jean Bacon, Butter Leaf Lettuce, Tomato, Red Onion, and Aïoli.  I had the Hickory Smoke with Sharp Cheddar Cheese, Smokey-Sweet Barbeque Sauce, and Fried Onion Strings.
Jule promptly put the truffle-garlic-herb fries on top of her burger!
These fries are fried in white truffle oil and topped with garlic and parsley.
Yummy!
