Lambert's is a place where you should be hungry... maybe starving... before you go. There is so much food to come to your table even before you order that you really don't have to even order any food to be full. The servers walk around and deliver free southern foods like macaroni and tomatoes, fried okra, skillet potatoes, black-eyes peas and... wait for it... THROWED ROLLS. What are throwed rolls? Just what it sounds like. Big, beautiful, warm and delicious bread that is thrown at you. Yes, that's right... it's thrown at you. The tradition began a long time ago when the restaurant became so crowded that the servers could not easily reach the customers. One person "tossed" a roll to a customer, and throwing rolls became something that happens every day.
Connie and Jule being silly at Lambert's. |
This was our "roll thrower" for the night. |
We all ordered a traditional southern dish called "Chicken and Dumplings." It was gooooood!
Here's a little more information about Lambert's Cafe. The one in the video is the one in Sikeston, Missouri but the experience is the same at all three locations.
If you speak English, you may still have trouble understanding the people in this video. They have what we call a "deep southern accent."
We consumed our fair share of the 2, 246,000 rolls that are made here each year!
